This compact snowman ornament is deliberately shorter than the wind spinner: a small stuffed head, blue scarf, short white corkscrew body, and silver snowflake charm create a light tree-sized decoration.
This pattern has been mathematically reviewed, but the finished design has not yet been physically sample-tested. Check measurements and hardware before gifting or display.

Abbreviations and special stitch
US terms: ch = chain; sl st = slip stitch; sc = single crochet; hdc = half double crochet; dc = double crochet; tr = treble crochet; inc = increase; dec = decrease.
Invisible decrease: work one sc through the front loops of the next two stitches.
Pattern instructions
Compact head
With white, work 6 sc in a magic ring. Increase to 12, 18, 24 and 30 stitches. Work 5 rounds even, place the eyes, then decrease through 24, 18 and 12 stitches. Stuff lightly and close. Add the orange nose and embroidered smile.
Hat and scarf
Make a small black top hat over a 24-stitch crown, add a red band and two green holly leaves. Crochet the blue scarf 4 stitches wide and 8 in / 20 cm long.
Short spiral body
With white, ch 19. Skip the first chain and sc through each back bump. (18 sts) Turn. Work 3 dc in each stitch. (54 sts) Sc in each outer-edge stitch. (54 sts)

Sew the spiral directly under the scarf so its first turn begins close to the head. Attach the snowflake charm to the last stitch with a reinforced thread loop.

Assembly and finishing
Add a 4 in / 10 cm hanging loop through the hat crown and head. Confirm the ornament hangs straight and remains compact. Do not substitute a heavy charm that could stretch the spiral.

Blocking and care
Weave each end through several adjacent stitches. Block with rustproof pins, following the yarn label. Spot clean decorative hardware and reshape the crochet before air drying.

Frequently asked questions
Can I change the yarn?
Yes, but make a gauge swatch and keep all components in the same yarn weight. A heavier yarn changes the finished scale and hardware requirements.
Can I sell finished pieces?
You may sell small quantities of finished pieces made from this pattern. Credit Tenderecipe as the pattern source; do not redistribute the written instructions.
