Medium spiral
With icy blue, ch 29. Skip the first chain and sc through each back bump. (28 sts) Turn. Work 3 dc in each stitch across, alternating navy and icy blue every 7 foundation stitches. (84 sts) Join white and sc in each stitch, adding a picot after every sixth sc. (84 sts)
Other sizes
For the short ornament begin with ch 23 and for the long ornament begin with ch 35. Apply the same three-dc curl ratio and white edge. Keep the color sequence symmetrical from top to bottom.
Snowflake topper
Work 6 sc in a magic ring. For each of six points, sl st in the next stitch, ch 5, sl st in the second chain and down the remaining chains. Fasten off, block, and sew one snowflake to the top of each spiral.
Attach a silver hanging loop above the snowflake. Thread optional beads below the spiral on doubled crochet thread and knot securely inside the final bead.
Assembly and finishing
Steam-block lightly without flattening the curls. Confirm that each loop supports the ornament vertically and that bead drops cannot pull through the final stitch. Beads are unsuitable for items accessible to small children.
