Ingredients

  • 1 cup sourdough starter
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and chopped
  • 2 tablespoons sugar (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Combine the all-purpose flour, sourdough starter, warm water, and salt in a large bowl. Stir gently until a shaggy dough forms.
  2. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead it for about 10 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
  3. Incorporate the chopped strawberries and sugar into the dough, ensuring even distribution.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm environment for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Shape the risen dough into a loaf and place it in a greased loaf pan.
  7. Cover the loaf again and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Brush the top with melted butter.
  9. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and it sounds hollow when tapped.
  10. Let the bread cool before slicing.

Notes

For a sweeter bread, add sugar. Experiment with mix-ins like nuts or chocolate for variety.
