Deliciously rich and sweet crockpot baked beans, perfect for any gathering or cozy night in.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups dried navy beans
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 5 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 1/2 cup bacon, cooked and crumbled (optional)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the dried beans under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. Soak the beans in enough water overnight.
  3. The next day, drain and rinse the soaked beans.
  4. Combine them in the crockpot with the diced onion, brown sugar, ketchup, molasses, salt, pepper, mustard, and the crumbled bacon.
  5. Add 5 cups of water, ensuring the beans are submerged.
  6. Stir gently to mix all the ingredients.
  7. Cover the crockpot and let the beans cook on low for 8-10 hours.
  8. Before serving, taste the beans and adjust the seasoning if needed.

Notes

Make-ahead tips: Prepare a day in advance for better flavor. Can be cooked in an instant pot for faster preparation.
