Ingredients

- 2 cups dried navy beans
- 1 onion, diced
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 5 cups water
- 1 tablespoon mustard
- 1/2 cup bacon, cooked and crumbled (optional)
Instructions
- Rinse the dried beans under cold water until the water runs clear.
- Soak the beans in enough water overnight.
- The next day, drain and rinse the soaked beans.
- Combine them in the crockpot with the diced onion, brown sugar, ketchup, molasses, salt, pepper, mustard, and the crumbled bacon.
- Add 5 cups of water, ensuring the beans are submerged.
- Stir gently to mix all the ingredients.
- Cover the crockpot and let the beans cook on low for 8-10 hours.
- Before serving, taste the beans and adjust the seasoning if needed.

Make-ahead tips: Prepare a day in advance for better flavor. Can be cooked in an instant pot for faster preparation.
