Description

A classic side dish of sweet potatoes in a rich syrup of brown sugar and spices, perfect for any holiday meal.


Ingredients

  • 3 large Sweet Potatoes, peeled and sliced into 1/4 inch rounds
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1/4 cup Water
  • 1/2 tsp Salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Peel and slice the sweet potatoes into uniform rounds.
  3. In a large pot over medium heat, combine the unsalted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla extract, water, and salt. Heat gently until the mixture thickens.
  4. Add the sliced sweet potatoes to the pot, stirring lightly to coat each round.
  5. Transfer the sweet potatoes into a baking dish, pouring any remaining syrup over the top.
  6. Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  7. After 30 minutes, uncover the dish and continue baking for an additional 15 minutes.
  8. Serve warm.

Notes

Feel free to experiment with spices like nutmeg or add pecans for texture.
