Instructions

  1. Combine the granulated sugar, corn syrup, and water in a heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium heat. Stir gently until the sugar dissolves completely.
  2. Allow the mixture to boil without stirring until it reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).
  3. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in flavoring extract and food coloring.
  4. Pour the mixture onto a greased baking sheet or silicone mat.
  5. Use cookie cutters when cool enough to handle to cut out star shapes.
  6. Dust with powdered sugar to prevent sticking and allow to set completely.
