    • 1 lb ground beef
    • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
    • 1/2 cup diced jalapeños
    • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
    • 1 egg, beaten
    • 1 tsp garlic powder
    • 1 tsp onion powder
    • 1 tsp cumin
    • 1 tsp chili powder
    • Salt and pepper to taste
  • For the Coating:
    • 1 cup all-purpose flour
    • 2 eggs, beaten
    • 2 cups panko breadcrumbs
  • For Frying:
    • Vegetable oil (enough for deep frying)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, cheddar cheese, jalapeños, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  2. Form the mixture into golf ball-sized balls and place them on a baking sheet.
  3. Set up a breading station with three bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with panko breadcrumbs.
  4. Dredge each ball in flour, dip in egg, and coat with panko breadcrumbs.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Carefully add the balls to the hot oil in batches, frying for 4-5 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
  7. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
  8. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Make-ahead: You can prepare the balls a day in advance and refrigerate them before frying.
  • Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Substitutions: Use ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option, or replace cheese with a dairy-free alternative for a vegan version.
