The Scoop of Heaven Trifle is a delightful dessert that layers velvety vanilla pudding, rich chocolate cake, and fresh berries, creating a symphony of textures and flavors. Each spoonful offers a creamy, sweet experience, punctuated by the tartness of the berries and the moistness of the cake, making it a heavenly treat for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Vanilla Pudding:
    • 2 cups whole milk
    • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
    • 1/4 cup cornstarch
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • For the Chocolate Cake:
    • 1 cup all-purpose flour
    • 1 cup granulated sugar
    • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
    • 1 teaspoon baking powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
    • 1 cup water
  • For the Assembly:
    • 2 cups mixed fresh berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
    • 1 cup whipped cream

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, whisk together the milk, sugar, cornstarch, and salt over medium heat until it thickens, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Let the pudding cool completely.
  3. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add the vegetable oil and water, mixing until smooth.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Once the cake is cool, cut it into small cubes.
  7. In a large trifle dish, layer half of the cake cubes, followed by half of the vanilla pudding, half of the berries, and half of the whipped cream. Repeat the layers.
  8. Chill the trifle in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving.
