  • Yield: 24 wontons 1x
  • Diet: Gluten-Free (if using gluten-free flour)

Description

These homemade wontons are a delightful combination of crispy, golden-brown wrappers and a juicy, savory filling that bursts with flavor in every bite. The contrast between the crunchy exterior and the tender, flavorful interior creates a satisfying texture that will leave you craving more.

Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Wonton Wrappers:
    • 2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 large egg
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1/4 cup water (adjust as needed)
  • For the Filling:
    • 1 cup ground pork
    • 1/2 cup finely chopped green onions
    • 1/4 cup shredded carrots
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
    • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
    • 1/2 teaspoon ginger, grated

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the egg and water. Mix until a dough forms.
  2. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  3. In another bowl, mix together all filling ingredients until well combined.
  4. Roll out the dough thinly and cut into 3-inch squares.
  5. Place a teaspoon of filling in the center of each square. Moisten the edges with water and fold to seal, forming a triangle or rectangle.
  6. Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C). Fry the wontons in batches until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  7. Remove and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Make-ahead: Wontons can be assembled and frozen before frying. Just fry them directly from the freezer, adding a minute or two to the cooking time.
  • Storage: Store leftover cooked wontons in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Substitutions: Use ground chicken or tofu for a different protein option.
