This French Onion Chicken Rice Bake is a comforting dish that combines tender chicken with creamy rice, all enveloped in a rich, savory onion sauce. The crispy topping adds a delightful crunch, making each bite a perfect balance of textures and flavors.

Ingredients

  • Chicken: 2 cups cooked, shredded chicken
  • Rice: 1 cup uncooked long-grain white rice
  • Onion Soup Mix: 1 packet (about 1 oz)
  • Broth: 2 cups low-sodium chicken broth
  • Onions: 2 medium onions, thinly sliced
  • Cheese: 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
  • Butter: 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • Olive Oil: 1 tablespoon
  • Seasoning: Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat and sauté the sliced onions until they are caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.

  4. Transfer the mixture to a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.

  6. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  7. Remove the foil, sprinkle the Gruyère cheese on top, and bake uncovered for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  8. Let it cool for 5 minutes before serving.
