Description

These Crispy Feta & Spinach Phyllo Cigars are a delightful fusion of flaky, golden pastry and a savory filling that bursts with flavor. Each bite offers a satisfying crunch followed by the creamy richness of feta cheese and the earthy notes of fresh spinach, perfectly complemented by a drizzle of spicy hot honey.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Filling:
    • 8 oz feta cheese, crumbled
    • 2 cups fresh spinach, chopped
    • 1/2 cup ricotta cheese
    • 1/4 cup fresh dill, chopped
    • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Phyllo Dough:
    • 1 package (16 oz) phyllo dough, thawed
    • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • Hot Honey Drizzle:
    • 1/2 cup honey
    • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine feta cheese, spinach, ricotta, dill, and black pepper until well mixed.
  3. Lay one sheet of phyllo dough on a clean surface and brush with melted butter. Layer another sheet on top and brush again.
  4. Place 2 tablespoons of the filling at one end of the phyllo sheet and roll tightly into a cigar shape, tucking in the ends.
  5. Repeat with remaining phyllo sheets and filling.
  6. Place the cigars on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and brush the tops with more melted butter.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
  8. While baking, heat honey in a small saucepan over low heat and stir in red pepper flakes. Remove from heat.
  9. Once the cigars are done, drizzle with hot honey before serving.

Notes

  • Make-ahead: You can prepare the filling and roll the cigars a day in advance. Store them in the refrigerator before baking.
  • Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven for best results.
  • Substitutions: Use goat cheese instead of feta for a tangier flavor, or swap spinach for kale for a different green.
