Crispy Chicken Wonton Tacos offer a delightful crunch with every bite, featuring a perfectly golden exterior that gives way to tender, flavorful chicken. The combination of savory spices and fresh toppings creates a mouthwatering experience that tantalizes the taste buds.

Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Wontons:
    • 20 wonton wrappers
    • Oil for frying
  • For the Chicken Filling:
    • 1 pound ground chicken
    • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
    • 1 teaspoon onion powder
    • 1 teaspoon chili powder
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
    • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
    • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • For Toppings:
    • 1 cup shredded lettuce
    • 1 cup diced tomatoes
    • 1/2 cup shredded cheese
    • 1/4 cup sour cream
    • 1/4 cup salsa

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat sesame oil over medium heat. Add ground chicken and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, salt, and black pepper. Cook for an additional 2 minutes until spices are fragrant.
  3. Remove from heat and let the chicken mixture cool slightly.
  4. In a deep frying pan, heat oil to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Carefully place a wonton wrapper in the hot oil, folding it into a taco shape. Fry for 2-3 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  6. Repeat with remaining wonton wrappers.
  7. Fill each crispy wonton taco with the chicken mixture and top with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, sour cream, and salsa.
  8. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • Make-ahead: The chicken filling can be prepared a day in advance and stored in the refrigerator.
  • Storage: Store leftover tacos in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days, but the wontons may lose their crispiness.
  • Substitutions: Ground turkey or beef can be used instead of chicken. For a vegetarian option, substitute with crumbled tofu or tempeh.
