Ingredients

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/2 cup pumpkin puree
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for swirl)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Add the cold butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- In another bowl, combine pumpkin puree, milk, egg, and vanilla extract.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
- In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and cinnamon for the swirl.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and shape it into a rectangle.
- Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the dough and roll it up tightly.
- Cut the rolled dough into scones and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- For a sweeter scone, add a glaze on top after baking.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
- These scones can be frozen before baking for up to 2 months.
