Description

These Baked Feta Stuffed Phyllo Pastries are a delightful combination of crispy, flaky layers enveloping a creamy, tangy feta filling. The addition of a spicy syrup drizzled on top elevates the flavor profile, creating a perfect balance of savory and sweet that tantalizes the taste buds.

Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Pastries:
    • 1 package of phyllo dough (16 oz), thawed
    • 8 oz feta cheese, crumbled
    • 1 cup ricotta cheese
    • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
    • 1/4 cup olive oil, for brushing
  • For the Spicy Syrup:
    • 1 cup honey
    • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
    • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix the crumbled feta, ricotta, and parsley until well combined.
  3. Lay one sheet of phyllo dough on a clean surface and brush lightly with olive oil.
  4. Layer another sheet of phyllo on top and brush with olive oil again.
  5. Cut the layered phyllo into strips about 4 inches wide.
  6. Place a tablespoon of the cheese mixture at one end of each strip and fold the sides over the filling.
  7. Roll the strip tightly to form a pastry and place it seam-side down on a baking sheet.
  8. Brush the tops with olive oil and bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. While the pastries are baking, prepare the spicy syrup by combining honey, red pepper flakes, and lemon juice in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir until heated through and well mixed.
  10. Once the pastries are done, drizzle the spicy syrup over them before serving.

Notes

  • Make-ahead: You can prepare the pastries and freeze them before baking. Just bake them directly from the freezer, adding a few extra minutes to the baking time.
  • Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Substitutions: You can use goat cheese instead of feta for a different flavor profile.
