Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 cups peeled and diced apples
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
  3. Add melted butter to the dry ingredients and mix until crumbly.
  4. Press half of the mixture into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  5. In another bowl, toss the diced apples with lemon juice and spread them over the crust.
  6. Sprinkle the remaining crumb mixture over the apples and add nuts if desired.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
  8. Allow to cool before cutting into bars and serving.

Notes

  • For a sweeter filling, add more sugar to the apples.
  • These bars can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week.
  • Feel free to substitute other fruits for the apples, such as pears or berries.
