A delicious and flaky pastry filled with sweetened apples and cinnamon, perfect for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • 2 cups apples, peeled and diced
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Stir in cold water, a tablespoon at a time, until mixture forms a ball. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for 4 hours or overnight.
  4. In another bowl, combine apples, cinnamon, brown sugar, and lemon juice.
  5. Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut into squares.
  6. Place a spoonful of the apple mixture in the center of each square.
  7. Fold the corners of the dough over the filling and seal.
  8. Brush the tops with beaten egg.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, add a pinch of nutmeg to the apple filling.
